If you are tired of your old Gmail address from your teenage years, you can now change your Gmail address without losing any data. Google has introduced this feature so users can replace their old Gmail address with a new one while keeping all emails, messages, and account data intact.
With this feature, the old address remains active, and emails sent to both the old and new addresses will be received. All stored data, including photos and messages, will remain unchanged.
User Reactions to Changing Gmail Addresses
Social media users welcomed this feature, especially those who felt embarrassed by their old Gmail addresses or wanted to update their name in their email. Members of the transgender community and users who changed their names were also happy, as it allows them to distance themselves from past names.
One user on X wrote: “Feature needed: 2005. Feature arriving: 2025. Gap: two decades of suffering!” Another commented: “All those years with funny or awkward addresses erased… too bad memories can’t be deleted.”
How to Change Your Gmail Address
- Go to Manage Your Google Account.
- Under Personal Info, click on your Gmail address and select Change your Google Account email address.
Note: Only accounts ending with @gmail.com can change their address, and the new address must also end with @gmail.com. After changing, you cannot register another email for the same account for 12 months, but you can reuse the old address.
Why Changing Your Gmail Address Matters
This feature allows users to replace outdated or embarrassing Gmail addresses, improving the overall user experience. It also helps manage digital identity and maintain privacy more effectively.
